Obituary of Margaret Beckwith

Margaret S. Beckwith died Thursday afternoon, July 22, 2010 at her home. She was born in Florence County, SC on June 24, 1921 and moved to Wake County, NC in 1930 following the death of her father. She was also predeceased by her mother; her husband, Harold E. Beckwith, who died on their fortieth wedding anniversary; her son, David Steele Beckwith and a sister, Grace S. Smith.

Margaret was a devoted member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church of Raleigh, having joined at an early age. She served the church in many capacities which included the compilation of a scrapbook entitled "Reflections on our Past" containing bits of church history dating back to 1932.

She went to sleep "Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ." (Titus 2:13)

She was a retired employee of the Wake County Health Department, a most worthwhile program, with 35 years of service. She also served as secretary to the Medical Examiner System.

Margaret graduated from Garner High School in 1939 and in 1990 she served on the committee to plan their only class reunion - their 51st.

She is survived by a son, H. Allen Beckwith of Fuquay-Varina; a daughter in-law, Muriel "Missy" Beckwith of Pittsboro; eight grandchildren: Clarke, Lara, Ryan, Stephanie, Brittany, Courtney, Katherine and Michael as well as two great grandchildren: Thomas and Madison.

A Graveside Funeral Service will be held 10 a.m. Sunday, July 25, 2010 at Montlawn Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Seventh-day Adventist Church of Raleigh, 4805 Dillard Drive, Raleigh, NC 27606 or to one's favorite charity.
