Margaret Satterfield Clay, loving mother, grandmother, and co-founder of Clay's Power Equipment went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 29, 2018 at the age of 93.
Margaret is survived by her son, Jerry Clay and wife Phyllis of Raleigh, daughters, Sandra Clay of Sherrills Ford, NC and Brenda Clay of Greensboro, NC, and a grandson, Brandon Clay of Raleigh. She is also survived by many other nieces and nephews. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Henry Hoyle Clay.
She was born on September 27, 1924 in Harnett County to the late Annie Lee Satterfield and Joseph Penn Satterfield. Margaret graduated from Angier High School. She initially worked for the NC Dept. of Motor Vehicles before she and Hoyle founded Peace Street Hardware and Garden Supply in 1965 on the corner of Peace Street and Capital Blvd. The business later changed its name to Clay's Garden Supply (now Clay's Power Equipment), and moved to its present location in 1970. Margaret was an active member of Tabernacle Baptist Church for over 60 years and married Hoyle in Tabernacle on December 15, 1951. She was devoted to her family, enjoyed cooking, growing and taking care of flowers, and loved to pull for her UNC Tarheels.
The family would like to express their thanks to the staff of Falls River Court, Falls River Village, and Dr. Lalita Sidana for their professional and loving care for Margaret.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:30 A.M. at Montlawn Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 2 nd . A graveside service will be held immediately following visitation in Montlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Margaret's name to Tabernacle Baptist Church, 8304 Leesville Road, Raleigh, NC 27613.
