Obituary of Margaret High
Margaret Ruth Faulkner High, 94, passed away peacefully, Saturday, July 27, 2013 at the Oaks at Mayview with her daughter by her side.
The Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 3, 2013 at St. Paul Christian Church, 3331 Blue Ridge Road, Raleigh, NC 27614 with the Rev. Phil Jones officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:30 to 11:00 AM prior to the service. St. Paul's was founded on May 17, 1959, under the pastoral leadership of Dr. R. Fred West and a dedicated group of 221 charter members, with Margaret being one.
Born August 14, 1918 in Johnston County daughter of the late John Leland Faulkner and Eva Ellen Alford Faulkner. She is preceded in death by her two sisters Gwendolyn "Gwen" Wall and Virginia "Ginny" Mountjoy, and a brother Charles "Owen" Faulkner.
Left to cherish here memory, her daughter, Margaret "Peggy" Mayer Davis and husband Don Davis of Raleigh, Granddaughter, Margaret " Peggy" Harris and husband Stephen Harris of Durham, Grandchildren; Phen Harris, Foster Harris, along with a sister, Elizabeth "Libby" Crawley of Littleton, NC.
Margaret attended one year of college at Atlantic Christian College (ACC), and was in the first graduating class of Rex Hospital School of Nursing in 1939. She served her country during World War II in the Army Nurse Corp from November, 1940 through March, 1943. She had a long career in Nursing. Margaret was part of the team that started the first Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Rex Hospital; and finished her career at the student infirmary at NC State University. She participated and was very active in the Senior Games of North Carolina winning many medals, a specialist in race walking and swimming, training year round. Margaret will be remembered for her zest for life, keeping her mind and self busy, and a love of people.
The family would like to give heartfelt thanks to Margaret's care givers: Feda, Rethea and Ollie and the staff of Mayview for their compassion and care.
In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.
