Obituary of Margaret Spiess
Margaret Elizabeth Spiess, known as Bonnie to her friends and family, passed away on Thursday May 28 at her daughters home in Clayton after months of declining health. She was born August 24, 1926, daughter of Walter and Lizzie Jones and grew up in Raleigh with her sister Shirley. She was the widow of William C. "Bill" Spiess, they were married on August 23, 1946. They enjoyed many happy years until his passing in 1991.
She is survived by her daughters, Bonnie Henderson of Clayton and Billie Parrish of Raleigh, along with her son-in-law, Pat Parrish. Also, her grandchildren, Scott Henderson of Clayton, Kirk Henderson of Goldsboro, Kyle Parrish of Raleigh and Jana Parrish of Lompoc CA. She also had one great-grandson, Justin Moore of Wake Forest.
Her sister's family also survives, brother-in law Charles Watkins, nieces Kay McConnell of White Lake and Barbara Watkins of Cary and their families. She also had one first cousin, Gerald Keith of Raleigh, that survives.
A few years after Bill's passing, she moved from Garner to the Highland Commons Senior Development in Cary and loved it until she had to give up independent living last year. She made great friends and enjoyed bingo and her afternoon card games.
We thank all the caregivers we have encountered along our journey these past few months, and a special thank you to Transitions Life Care, who helped us care for our mother in a family setting for the past month. Their kindness and help was much appreciated.
Memorial Contributions can be made to Jenkins Memorial Methodist Church, 725 Boylan Avenue, Raleigh NC 27605. This is the church my mother was married in and is special to our family.
Visitation will be held at Montlawn Funeral Home in Raleigh at 2 pm Wednesday June 3, followed by a chapel service at 3 PM. Burial to follow in Montlawn Memorial Park.
