Obituary of Margery Moyer
Margery Carol (Day) Moyer of Gansevoort, NY and Clayton, NC passed away on May 22, 2014 in Raleigh, NC. Margery was born in Oneida Valley, NY on November 9, 1920, her mother's birthday. She was the daughter of Georgianna (Chapman) and Harry Day. In 1947, she married Russell H. Moyer at the Fort Plain Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Trinity Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school. For many years, Margery was a health aid at Moreau and Ballard Elementary Schools and led 4-H.
Margery is predeceased by her parents, sisters Anne Slavic and Wilma Turner, brothers Chapman and Willis Day, her husband Russ, and her son Marvin R. Moyer. Survivors include a daughter, Margy Pearl and her husband, Terry of Clayton, NC; twin grandsons, Randy Moyer of Wilton, NY and Howie Moyer and great-granddaughter Eva of Gansevoort, NY; granddaughters Abbey Moyer and Laura Seliga, her husband Joe, and great-grandson Eddie of Cary, NC; and grandson, Russell Pearl of Clayton, NC.
Margery was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and "Neena" to her great-grandchildren. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening, and writing. One of her stories, The Valley of Lilies, was published in 2006. Most of all, Margery loved being with her family, and never lost her sense of humor.
At her request, there will be no service. She will be interred at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Saratoga Springs, NY, where her husband, Russ is at rest. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Kidney Fund.
Arrangements are by Montlawn Funeral Home, 2911 S. Wilmington St., Raleigh, NC. Condolences can be made at www.montlawn.com
I have given this a lot of thought and have made a decision. All things considered, pros and cons, this is what I would like: No funeral or memorial services. Eventually I will be in the veteran's wall beside Russ. I want you to remember me up and about, talking, laughing, and alive. After all, I will still be with you, all my loved ones. Not in body, but in spirit.
Until we meet again, I am still a sister, mom, Gramma, Neena, aunt, cousin, and friend.
As always, in love,
Margery Day Moyer
I wrote the following poem when I wrote Valley of the Lilies. I am now a child of the sky.
Children of the Sky
By Margery Day Moyer
As I lay in my soft bed,
Out of the corner of my eye,
By, Boy Swift, they are led,
My friends, the children of the sky.
Down the crescent moon they slide,
They dart in and out of the big dipper,
In and out of the shining stars they glide,
Now they are led by the little Skipper.
Sparkle sits on my window sill,
She has eyes of blue and golden hair,
If I am quiet and very still,
She will blow stardust in the air.
We both laugh with glee,
She twirls me about her life in the sky,
They are so carefree and happy.
The children of the sky.
Sparkle softly kisses my forehead,
Off one by one, they flutter and fly,
To sleep on a soft, fluffy cloud bed,
My friends, the happy children of the sky.
