Obituary of Marguerite McAlexander

Marguerite "Rita" Shaw McAlexander, of Raleigh, passed away Tuesday afternoon, December 20, 2011 at Rex Hospital.

A Funeral Service will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 23, 2011 at Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12-12:45 p.m. Friday.

Born May 19, 1931 in Wake County, NC, Rita was the daughter of the late Henry Earl Shaw and Margaret Lloyd Shaw. In addition to her parents, Rita is preceded in death by her sister, Edna Earle Dunnigan and brother, Charles "Mac" Shaw.

Rita was a wonderful wife mother, grandmother, and sister. She will always be remembered for her love of flowers and cooking, and her care of family and friends.

Rita is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Robert McAlexander; her beloved son, Randall McAlexander and wife Pat; very special grandchildren, Laura and Meagan McAlexander. She is also survived by her sister, Virginia Browning; sisters-in-law, Peggy McAlexander, Shirley McAlexander and husband John, Betty Shaw, Linda Duke and husband Stan, Brenda Vaughan and husband Glen; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Rita to the Macedonia Baptist Church, 7100 Holly Springs Road, Raleigh, NC 27606 OR Dedicated to the Fight Fund, 4101 Macon Pond Road, Raleigh, NC 27607.
