Marguerite Fern "Marg" White passed away in the early hours of Tuesday, July 25, 2017. Marg was born to Hollis and Gladys (ne Lambert) Mullins in Strange Creek, WV on October 1, 1934. Marg was the beloved wife of David White for 62 years. After meeting in Spanish class at West Virginia University (WVU), they married on January 29, 1955 at her parents' home in Dille, WV during a blizzard. Despite a stinky-cheese-on-the-radiator prank by his fraternity brothers, she chose to stick with him.
Marg graduated from WVU in the spring of 1956 with a degree in Social Work. For 20 years, she worked as the librarian at Red Bird Elementary in Madison, OH, a position she treasured greatly for allowing her to merge her passions for books, helping children and cardinals. She was a woman with the sort of quiet, solid strength that allowed her to endure her family's near-constant stream of hijinks. She employed this same quality to survive cancer - twice. We were blessed to learn a lifetime's worth of lessons by her side, including the proper way to peel a peach, the value of a library card, how to root for Cleveland's sports teams and how to truly show kindness to everyone. An avid bird watcher, she also loved the beach, going to the library, frying flounder, teaching her family to fry the flounder so she could relax with a good book, President Barack Obama, the Cleveland Indians and the Cavaliers.
She is survived by David, her husband; her three children, Kimberly (Greg) Voss, Lisa, and Allen (Laura); treasured brother-in-law David Groves; grandchildren Ashley, Nicholas, Trevor, Graham and Gabriel; nieces Julie (Michael) Long and Sandy Groves; nephew Michael (Joy) Groves; seven grand-nieces & nephews; and numerous friends, including Eloise (Ken) Heichel, her best friend for more than 60 years. She was preceded by her parents and her sister, Carol Sue Groves.
A service will be held at noon on Saturday, July 29 at Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh, NC with Dr. Michael Groves officiating. Gifts in her memory may be made to the Madison Public Library, c/o Nancy Currie, 6111 Middle Ridge Rd, Madison, Ohio 44057 or to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at donate.lls.o
