Mark Emerson Kearney passed away on Friday, January 26, 2018 in Durham, NC at the age of 36. He is survived by his parents, Alan and Kay Kearney of Garner; daughter, Madelynn Kearney of Christoval, TX; sister, Ava Kelley of Chocowinity, NC; brother, Brandon Brightwell of Burlington, NC; brother, Justin Kearney of Greensboro, NC; sister, Emily Boggie of Zebulon, NC; brother, Travis Kearney of Chesapeake, VA; Brother-in-law, Thomas Kelley; eleven loving nieces and nephews; and a tremendous extended family consisting of many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his mother, Betty Ellen Kearney, his grandparents and several uncles and cousins.
Mark was born on October 21, 1998 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC. He grew up in Wake Forest, NC and then moved to Chesapeake, VA prior to his junior year. He then graduated from Hickory High School in Chesapeake, VA in 1998. Mark loved his daughter with all of his heart and took great pride in how sweet and smart she is. He loved spending time outdoors with his brothers and friends. He loved to go camping, hiking, and fishing. Mark had a great love of music and was a very talented musician. He loved going to concerts and discovering new music. Mark was loved by everyone who knew him. He was the kindest, most loving and generous soul who was always willing to give love and acceptance to anyone willing to accept it. He will be missed tremendously by the huge extended family and countless number of friends that he leaves behind.
A wake is scheduled for Tuesday, January 30, 2018 from 6-8:00 p.m. at Montlawn Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at Montlawn on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. He will then be laid to rest next to his mother in Montlawn Cemetary immediately following the funeral. All are welcomed and encouraged to attend and celebrate Mark's life.
