IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Martha Nell
Marcom
April 18, 1939 – July 29, 2024
Tuesday, August 6th 1-2pm viewing, 2pm burial
Martha Nell Marcom, age 85, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 29, 2024, at her home in Raleigh, NC. She was born to Pansy and Harlowe Copeland, on April 18, 1939, and adopted at age 8 by her aunt and uncle, Augusta and Lester Marcom. Devout Christians, Martha and her family were members of First Presbyterian church in downtown Raleigh for decades, and Martha's strong faith continued until her death. She attended Broughton high school, before finishing her Undergraduate degree at East Carolina University and her Masters degree at NC State University. Martha was the most loyal though, to the Duke Blue Devils but, most definitely, cringed at the mention of the Tar Heels. If you attended UNC Chapel Hill, she'd tell you to "spit and slide under my door" because she wasn't opening it for you! Martha received degrees in both Spanish and French, but her love for Spanish took her to Annapolis, MD where she taught Spanish for three years. She eventually moved to Burlington, NC to continue her teaching career, and would teach 30 years in this area before returning home to care for her ailing mother and aunt who both needed Martha's help full-time. This selfless act resulted in Martha moving back into her childhood home and living out her days with the three loves of her life…multiple Chihuahuas, the Republican party, and Bluegrass music. There wasn't a Bluegrass song Martha didn't know nor a festival she missed. She made it her mission to attend every show across the state of North Carolina, especially to see Bill Monroe and Del McCoury. Martha would travel with her dogs in tow, a chair, and her car to sleep in! Martha has touched countless people, from all walks of life, and will be deeply missed. She is with her Lord and Savior and resting in peace.
