Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years Roscoe Brown, Jr in June of this year; parents, Maude and Rodger Colvard of Boone and sister and brother-in-law, Martha & Bob Whitlock of Whitestone Greensboro. Mary is survived by her daughter, Elaine Williams of Raleigh; grandson, Josh & Alison Waymire with great granddaughter, Mia; granddaughter, Michelle & Chris Wheeler with great granddaughter, Georgia; Son and daughter-in-law, Tim & Debby Brown of Cary.

Mary was a graduate of Watauga High School in Boone where she met Roscoe and was a supporting wife while he completed his education at Appalachian State and served in the Army. Mary attended cosmetology school in Boone and would maintain her license for almost 60 years cutting and styling her own hair and that of friends needing classic mid-century curls.

Mary also worked as librarian support staff at Powell Elementary for several years before taking on the role of church secretary with Trinity United Methodist Church. Mary began a retail career with Hudson-Belk at Crabtree Valley Mall where she worked in gift wrapping before becoming the switchboard operator until she retired.
