Obituary of Mary Carrington

Mary Beatrice Carrington was born June 1, 1925 to the late Billy and Mary Williams Spence of Wake County. She was called to eternal rest on January 25, 2015 at Transitions LifeCare of Raleigh, N.C.

Mary was reared and attended schools in Wake County, NC. She joined Poplar Springs Christian Church at an early age and was a faithful attendant until her health declined. Mary was employed with the Wake County Public School System until she became disabled. She was loved by her family and cherished by many. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, shopping, cooking, singing gospel hymns, reading the bible, and last but not least, making people smile and laugh everyday.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Ezekiel Carrington; son, Cleveland R. Carrington; daughters, Essie J. Gulley and Barbara J. Carrington; grandsons, Willie G. Spence, Keith Spence; great-grandson, Jonathan Sanders, all of Raleigh, NC.

Mary leaves to cherish in memory her daughters, Mary S. (Lewis) Davis of Raleigh, Jeannette (Rufus) Short of Raleigh, Teresa (J. Phillip) Betts of Oxford, Susan (Josef) Robinson of Columbia, SC, Wendy Carrington of Raleigh; sons, Eugene (Mary) Spence of Garner, Rex (Christina) Carrington of Selma, James (Iris) Carrington of Raleigh; A special grandson she raised like her own, Paul (Rhonda) Carrington of Garner; sister, Thelma Douglas of Raleigh; brother-in-law, Marshall Gilbert; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends, and relatives.

A Funeral Service will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Poplar Springs Christian Church Inc. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Flowers are welcome or donations can be made in memory of Mary to Transitions LifeCare, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.
