Obituary of Mary Jones
Mary Emma Farmer Jones, age 91, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, June 19, 2013. She is survived by her devoted husband of 67 years, Rex "Buck" Jones; daughter and son-in-law Martha (Mike) Holt of Lilburn, GA; two granddaughters and husbands, Laura Durell (Matt) of Boston, MA, and Allison Hines (Matt) of Atlanta, GA; three great-grandchildren, Ben Durell, Nina Durell and Rex Hines; nieces, nephews, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, five siblings and a daughter, Ann Jones Gattis.
Mrs. Jones was born in Mount Olive, N.C. to George Leonidas Farmer and Dora Grady Farmer on May 22, 1922. She graduated from Mount Olive High School and received her nursing degree from Watts Hospital School of Nursing in 1943. Mrs. Jones served many families during her 36 year nursing career. She was known in Raleigh as one of the nurses for Dr. Thomas Umphlett. Dr. Umphlett donated a Chair to the University of North Carolina School of Nursing in her honor. Mrs. Jones was a member of First Baptist Church of Monroe. She and her husband, Buck, enjoyed traveling and visited England, Italy, Brazil, Hawaii and took several cruises. She also enjoyed sewing, music and was totally committed to her family. This gracious lady will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
A gathering time will be held in Monroe GA on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at the First Baptist Church Annex. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 27 at 11:00 a.m at Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel. Family will receive guests an hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to your favorite charity in memory of Mary Emma Jones.
