IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Joyce
Floyd
October 15, 1935 – June 6, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Joyce Floyd, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, who passed peacefully into the Lord's arms on June 6th, 2025 at Rex Hospital. Joyce was a vibrant soul whose passions and interest brought joy to those around her.
Born on October 15th, 1935 in Apex NC, to Leslie Gardner Alford and Mary Pleasants Alford.
Joyce found solace and strength in her faith, dedicating time to studying God's word through her many Bibles and books she received from Turning Point Ministries, by David Jeremiah. Her spiritual journey was a guiding light in her life, and she shared her wisdom and kindness with everyone she encountered. Her compassionate heart for the Lord made her a source of comfort and inspiration to many.
Joyce had a passion for sports and enjoyed cheering on some of her favorite teams with enthusiasm. Some of her favorite teams were NCSU, The Atlanta Braves, and Carolina Hurricanes. Whether it was a thrilling game on television or a local match, her spirit was infectious, and a testament to her love for all sports.
In her leisure time, Joyce enjoyed the art of cross-stitching, a pastime that allowed her to express her creativity and share her love through handmade gifts. Each piece she crafted was a reflection of her thoughtfulness and attention to detail. Her handiwork will be cherished by her family, serving as a reminder of her creativity and the warmth she brought into their lives.
Joyce had a special fondness for yellow roses, which symbolized the joy she brought to those around her. These flowers will forever remind us of her bright spirit and the love she shared so freely.
Mary Joyce Floyd was preceded in death by her first husband, Leon Thomas Baker, and later by her second husband, J.P. Floyd, her sons, Ronald Leon Baker and Franklin Todd Baker.
Mary Joyce Floyd is survived by her loving family, including her son Thomas Baker, his wife Diane, and her daughter, Cynthia Whitaker, her husband Lee Whitaker Jr. Joyce had seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren who she loved dearly. She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and passion that will continue to inspire those who knew her.
A memorial service will be held on June 23rd, 2025, at 1pm, at Holland's Church, 9433 Ten-Ten Rd. Raleigh NC 27603, where family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate Joyce's life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Turning Point Ministries reflecting Joyce's spirit in helping spread the Gospel and bringing hope to those in need through the power of God's word.
Mary Joyce Floyd will be deeply missed, but she is now at peace in the arms of her Savior and it's in His presence, we find comfort.
