Obituary

Mary Jane Dickerson Capps, 88 of Raleigh, NC peacefully passed away at her home on March 26, 2022.

She was predeceased by her husband, Cecil Wyche Capps and son Shawn
Cecil Capps. She is survived by her daughters Pamela Capps Hixson and
husband Eddie of Raleigh, NC, Wanda Capps Stovall and husband Shae of
Raleigh, NC and Brenda Capps Leto and husband John of Niskayuna, NY.
She also is survived by her grandchildren Abigail Hixson, Foster Hixson,
Ryan Leto and Austin Leto.

Jane was born in Granville County to Samuel Roy Dickerson and Essie Royal Brummitt Dickerson. She was one of eight children and was predeceased by her siblings Lynwood Dickerson, Dorothy Woodlief, Christine Forsythe, Marjorie Dixon, Nelson Dickerson, Charles Dickerson and Albert Dickerson. Jane graduated from UNC Greensboro in 1955 with a major in Home Economics and later met and married Cecil in 1957. They moved to Raleigh and she worked for the Agricultural Extension Service. She and Cecil called Raleigh home and resided here for the majority of their lives other than a few years in the 1980s when the family moved to St. Louis, Missouri.

Jane was an active and faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in
Raleigh, NC and Parkway Baptist Church in St. Louis, MO. She loved to
volunteer and was a long standing member of the Faith Sunday School
Class. Jane enjoyed her card games. She and Cecil were members of the
Pullen Park Bridge Club and several other clubs in their later years. Jane
loved to bake and was known for bringing her homemade cakes. Jane and
Cecil also enjoyed gardening and working in their beautiful yard. They
were walkers and could often be seen strolling through the neighborhood.

Jane suffered from dementia in her later years. The family would like to
thank all her caregivers, especially Rachel Emanuel and Tammy Locklear
with Lilies of Hope, who provided such wonderful care during this time.

A graveside funeral service is scheduled for 3:00pm on Saturday April 2nd at Montlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Church of your choice or to the Alzheimer's Association at Alz.org.
