Obituary of Mary Payne

Mary Payne, 79, of Raleigh, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday morning, December 10, 2009.

Graveside Funeral Service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Montlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Montlawn Funeral Home from 1-3 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

A native of Caswell County, Mary was born February 22, 1930, the daughter of the late Linzy and Pearl Fitch Byrd. Mary worked with the North Carolina Dept. of Revenue with over 20 years of service.

Mary is survived by her husband of 58 years, John; three sons, John Robert, Jr., and his wife Pattie of Raleigh, Lynn and his wife Laurie of Swansboro, Dean and his wife Lisa of Cary; daughter, Joan Baysden and her husband Phillip of Ernul; eight grandchildren, Heather Petersen and her husband Mel of Reidsville, John III and his wife Christy of Apex, Chad and his wife Heather of Winterville, Trent Payne of Swansboro, Taylor and Chelsea Payne of Cary, and Bobby and Bryan Baysden of Ernul. Mary is also survived by three great grandchildren; Connor and Camryn Payne of Apex and Carter Petersen of Reidsville.

Also surviving are her brother, George Byrd and his wife Betty of Yanceyville and her sister in law, Lois Byrd of Burlington. She was preceded in death by her brother, Walter "Jay Byrd" Byrd of Burlington.
