Obituary of Mattie Griffin

Mattie Pearce Griffin, 82 of Raleigh passed away very peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Thursday, February 12, 2014 at Hospice of Wake County.

Born September 12, 1931 in Wake Forest, NC, she was the daughter of the late William John Pearce and Erma Ray Pearce. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Willard Henry Griffin, Jr.; and siblings, Ray, Margaret and William.

Mattie is survived by children, Willard H. Griffin, III and his wife Karen, and Patricia "Trish" G. Engel and her fianc, Omar A. Hamdan; grandchildren, Daniel Engel, Jonathan Engel, Chris Griffin, and Rebecca Griffin; and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Mattie to the NC Triangle to the Coast Affiliate of Susan G. Komen, Attn: Donor Services, 133 Fayetteville St., Suite 300, Raleigh, NC 27601 or to the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, 4217 Park Place Ct., Glen Allen, VA 23060-9979.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Montlawn Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends 2-3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Light refreshments from The Pit (Mom's favorite restaurant) will be served during the visitation.
