Obituary of Melida Zell

Melida Lilli Berg Zell, 75, of Raleigh, died Sunday, June 24, 2012 at Rex Healthcare in Raleigh.

Funeral Service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Historic Oakwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.

A native of Grzemby, Germany, Melida grew up on her family farm prior to World War II and then moved to Ahrensburg, Germany following the end of the war. She immigrated to the United States at the age of 14 in February 1952.

Melida is survived by her daughters, Lillian Eugenia Barranca (Victor) of Connelly, NY, Vivian Melida Cronin (Donald) and Susan Anna Griffith (Clay), all of Raleigh; grandchildren, Jennifer Adele Atkinson (Matt) of Winter Garden, FL, Victor James Hugo Barranca of Connelly, NY, Kenneth Daniel Cronin (Tiffany) and Melida's great grandson Sebastian Alan Cronin, all of Oxford, Michael Alan Cronin and Kimberly Anne Cronin, both of Raleigh; sisters, Emma Deitchman of New York, Irene Hoffman of Canada and her brothers, Edmund Berg of West Hurley, NY and Herman Berg of Kingston, NY.

Melida was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Eugene Zell in 2010, her brother, Richard Berg and her sister, Elfrida Kraft.
