Michelle Williams was the daughter of the late Otis Smith Jr. and Annie L. Smith. She was born on September 6, 1960 in Brooklyn, New York and was the eldest of seven children. She graduated from South Shore High School June of 1978 and attended New York City Technical College.
Michelle was a passionate follower of Christ that always resounded throughout her life. At a young age she joined St. James Church of Christ in Brooklyn, New York, where she was an active member until she relocated with her family to Raleigh, North Carolina. She then joined the Light of Life Ministry. Michelle's mission was to live and spread the gospel, introduce the lost to Christ Jesus, to see souls saved and lives changed, and to show God's love through her kindness and hospitality.
In 1985, Michelle was employed at the United States Post Office and retired after 25 years of service.
During her retirement she continued to work as a Teachers Counselor with Autism Services INC, Life Insurance Agent, and a Safety Assistant for Wake County Public Schools. She would also volunteer at the Food Bank every chance she got.
Michelle was refuge and a listening ear to all. She provided hope to the hopeless, comfort, love, and encouragement, no matter what time of the day or night or how tired she was feeling. Michelle was a Mom, Sister, Grandma, Auntie, and cousin and friend to any who needed one.
Michelle was preceded in death by her Parents: Otis Smith Jr. and Annie L. Smith, Brother Otis Smith III, and Sister Connie Davis.
She is survived by her Children: David Grantham (Nicole) of Durham, N.C., Stephanie Grantham and Timothy Williams of Garner, N.C. Grandchildren: Alexia Grantham of Durham N.C., Janiaya Dunn of Garner, N.C., and Stanley Grantham of Durham N.C., Tristan Williams of Garner,N.C. Siblings: Milton Smith of Garner N.C., Malacia Smith of Poughkeepsie N.Y., Kenneth Smith of Raleigh, N.C., Nina Wilson (Sam) of Lillington, N.C. Nieces: Dashadina Bravo-Marion, Sashaselina Smith, Tiffany Wilson, Trinity Wilson, Taylor Wilson. Nephew: Dashawn Smith and a host of family and special friends.
