Nhim Tan commonly called Gongon and Yeye by his beloved grandchildren passed away on April 9 th , 2019 at 76 years old. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Anh Tan, his children Dinh Yau, Vinh Tan, Min Chen and his 8 grandchildren.

Gongon is remembered for his outgoing personality, strong-will and never-ending appetite. Throughout his life, Gongon was an ambitious entrepreneur. Beginning his journey in America as a Vietnam refugee sponsored family, he was able to open his own grocery store and restaurant while learning a third language--English. Despite the challenges of the language barrier, his Japanese-inspired hibachi restaurant became a huge accomplishment ultimately leading to the opening of another restaurant in Raleigh, North Carolina. He eventually moved to Raleigh to manage the restaurant and there, he spent the rest of his life focusing on the things most important to him. Throughout his time, Gongon battled for his life several times and survived through 2 heart attacks, a coma and heart transplant. He was a fighter. During all these difficult times, one thing remained true: his love and desire to recover for his family. As a man who knew what he wanted, he made sure to share his knowledge and interest of both technology and food with his family. Not only did he generously share innovative technological gifts with family, he also shared his love of food, typically at Chinese buffets. Gongon's love is incomparable. Gongon's gracious, kind-spirited and strong soul is sorely missed by his family and friends.

The family will receive friends Sunday, April 14 th starting at 1:00pm at Montlawn Funeral Home, 2911 S. Wilmington St., Raleigh, NC 27603.
