Obituary

RALEIGH

Norman H. Willey, born October 24, 1930 to Whitmel S. and Norma H. Willey, in Raleigh, North Carolina.  He passed away on October 11, 2020 due to COVID complications and several years of declining health.  Norman graduated from Needham Broughton High school and served in the US Air Force with active duty in the Korean War.  Upon being honorably discharged, Norman attended and graduated from NC State University with a degree in Civil Engineering, gaining both his PE and RLS registrations.  He "retired" from NCDOT in the 1980s and entered the private-practice, engineer consultantworld until his full retirement in 2004.

In 1956, Norman met the love of his life, Louise, on a Raleigh City bus.  They were married for 62 years until Louise's death in 2018.  Together they raised two daughters (Cathy and Becky) who in turn brought them the greatest joy in the birth of their grandchildren Haley and Brett.  Although the engineer in Norman loved fixing things (households, cars, ACs, plumbing, etc.), you could also find him at the beach, fishing with Louise, or watching Haley performing song and dance, or attending all Brett's baseball and basketball games.  For many years, he was a regular at the NCDOT retired Roadway engineer's lunches…reminiscing about past projects and transportation today.  He and Louise also enjoyed traveling with the Saint Andrews Joy Club for fun, food, and fellowship. He has dearly missed Louise since her death.

Preceding him in death:  his beloved Louise who surely was waiting to greet him upon his heavenly arrival, his parents, and his older brothers---Whit, Jr., Harold, and Charles.   He leaves behind, Cathy and her son, Brett of the home; Becky and her husband Michael of Fuquay-Varina, Becky's daughter Haley and her husband Chris of Boulder, CO, along with many other family and friends.

Due to COVID restrictions and concerns, a family only service will be held at noon on Friday, October 16th.  Friends may join via live stream at:
