Pearl Emma Tilley Tew

Pearl Emma Tilley Tew, 84, passed away Thursday, January 8, 2009, surrounded by her family.

A native of Surry County, Pearl was born January 19, 1924, in Pilot Mountain, NC to the late DeWitt Napoleon and Donnia Simmons Tilley. She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Raleigh where she enjoyed singing in the choir and teaching Sunday school. She loved spending time in her garden and being surrounded by her family and friends. Pearl never met a stranger and would give anything she could to help someone else. "You were never fully dressed if you weren't wearing a smile" was the way she lived her life.

Pearl is survived by her daughter Kay Tew Gregory and husband Larry, of Carolina Beach; son Dan Tew and partner Brenda Jones, of Greenville; grandchildren Ann Bradshaw Donnelly and husband Paul, Clark Daniel Tew, and Mollie Rose Tew; sister Levia Harrington; brother Jack Tilley; and sister Lucille Dellinger. She was preceded in death by her husband Wilson Daniel Tew and a brother Leo Tilley.

Graveside service will be Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at Montlawn Memorial Park.
