IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rebecca Griffin
Greene
April 10, 1932 – January 25, 2021
Rebecca (Becky) Griffin Greene 86, loving wife, mother, and grandmother of Jacksonville, NC passed away peacefully surrounded by love Monday, January 25th at Liberty Commons of Onslow. Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday at Montlawn Memorial Park.
A native of Rocky Mount, Rebecca was the daughter of the late Henry and Carrie Brantley Griffin. She retired as a Registered Nurse with over 25 years of service in the health care industry. The youngest of 7 siblings and a caregiver by nature, her calming personality and nurturing demeanor were the perfect spiritual gifts for her chosen vocation.
Becky was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. She served as a Stephen Minister, Disciple Bible Study leader, and active Women's Circle member in numerous UMC churches which she and her family belonged to over the years. From Wilmington, Skyland, Garner, Kinston, Dunn, Henderson, Warrenton, Spruce Pine, Black Mountain, Morehead City, back to Wilmington, and finally Cary, North Carolina, she loved her Lord and her faith family.
She and her husband Gordon first met one sunny day on Wrightsville Beach near Johnnie Mercer's pier and their wonderful adventure of more than 50 years began. She was a loving mother to her 3 children and a doting grandmother to her 3 grandchildren. "Grandmama" was well known for giving out treats and gifts. She was a beautiful and lovely lady who always put a lasting smile on the face of everyone she met!
Becky embraced her home state of North Carolina and all that it has to offer from the mountains to the sea. As a self-taught and accomplished water color artist she captured on canvas many beautiful scenes that she would find in her travels, her daily routine, or just around the next corner. These paintings continue to provide a source of great joy in her children's homes where they are displayed.
Rebecca is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years Gordon Andrews Greene. She is survived by her son, Paul F. Greene and his wife Christy of Apex; daughters Caroline Greene Outman and her husband Richard of Georgia, Jennifer Greene Alsaffar and her husband Mohammed of Jacksonville; grandchildren Brendon Alsaffar and his wife Shelby, Grace Greene and Julia Greene; sister Betty Jean Williams of Hope Mills. She was preceded in death by her sisters Virginia and Frances, and her brothers Henry, James and Edwin.
The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the staff of Liberty Commons of Onslow as well as Community Home Care and Hospice of Swansboro.
