Renneth Javan Calton, 82, was called to rest in Jesus, May 7, 2019, at his home in Brenham, Texas.  Mr. Calton, fondly known as "R.J." and "Van", was born March 10, 1937, in Wake County, Raleigh, North Carolina to Wilburn Clyde Calton Sr. and Mary Cornelia Hobby Calton.

After graduating high school from Admiral Farragut Preparatory Academy in New Jersey, Van later attended Duke University, playing freshman basketball. Afterwards, he apprenticed with his father W.C. Calton, Sr. and Raleigh entrepreneur, Albert Earle Finley, ultimately preparing him for his fifty plus year career at North Carolina Equipment Company.  He also founded two real estate holding companies CalCorp LLC and Sou-Tex, LLC reflecting his investment interests both in NC and Texas.

In North Carolina, Mr. Calton dedicated himself to three civic organizations, RGA (Raleigh Golf Association), the City Club of Raleigh, and the North Carolina State University Wolfpack Club where he was a Life Member and scholarship donor.  In Texas, his contributions were many throughout the last twelve years. North Galveston County will be eternally grateful for his outstanding resources, time, and compassion during the devastating 2008 Hurricane Ike. He was responsible for arranging transport for hundreds of cots, blankets, water, food, gasoline via semi trucks from VA, NC, and SC.  Along with wife Ginger they will always be remembered for co-hosting a German-Fest as a fundraiser for many thousands who lost absolutely everything in that disaster in North Galveston.  Also their co-investments in rebuilding that area are ongoing.

Mr. Calton is survived by his wife Ginger Grutzius of Brenham, Texas; his son and daughter-in-law, Curtis Christopher and wife Karen Calton of Holly Springs, NC; his daughter, Dr. Lari Calton Young of Winston Salem, NC; his daughter-in-law, Cameron Calton of Huntersville, NC; his former spouse, Lillian Daughtridge Truitt of Greensboro and their six grandchildren; his brother and sister-in-law Phillip Byron Calton and wife Geraldine Calton of Raleigh, NC; his sister, Mary Calton Fernandez de Castro of Wilmington, NC; and many loving nieces and nephews In VA, NC, and FL.

Preceding Mr. Calton in death are his son, Renneth Calton II; his parents Mary Cornelia Hobby Calton and Wilburn Clyde Calton Sr. "W.C. Sr."; and his brother W.C. Calton, Jr.

Interment will be held at Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh, NC at a future date. The burial and memorial service details will be forthcoming.
