GARNER

Retha Garner Barbour passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, October 5, 2021.  Retha was born October 13, 1943, to John and Mary Garner of Selma, NC.  Retha was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  She was active in the various communities where she spent her adult life and enjoyed volunteering, especially with the Garner Chamber of Commerce.

She was blessed with two children, four grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Garner; brother, Donald Garner; and her husband of 53 years, James Douglas Barbour, Sr.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Parsons; her children, James Douglas Barbour, Jr and wife Beth of Wilmington; Bruce Wayne Barbour and wife Kathy of Greenville; her grandchildren, Joshua Barbour (Megan); Sarah Smith (Alex); Courtney Barbour; Cameron Barbour; her great grandchildren, Everette Barbour; James Douglas Barbour, III; her five siblings, Kenneth Garner (Polly); Harold Garner; Carl Garner (Diane); Bruce Garner (Janice); Joyce Tyner (Dennis).

The family will hold private services at Montlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice in Retha's memory.
