Obituary of Rex Williams
Rex David Williams of Raleigh, North Carolina died peacefully on November 6, 2012. He had gracefully and courageously battled ALS since 2008.
Born May 9, 1955, Rex was a 1973 graduate of Enloe High School. He received a B.S. in Accounting from N.C. State University in 1977.
Rex excelled in his chosen professional career paths in the banking and financial industries. His financial leadership as Chief Financial Officer was invaluable to the success of Home Savings and Loan in Durham, Raleigh Federal Savings and Loan in Raleigh, Cornerstone Bank in Wilson, and with Capstone Bank in Raleigh. Rex's character and integrity were the foundation of his body of work, his passion to serve, and his ability to empower those around him. These gifts are his living legacy.
In 2008 while serving as Chief Financial Officer for Capstone Bank, Rex was diagnosed with ALS and continued his role as CFO until retirement. During the last 3 years, with the purpose of his life defined, Rex worked tirelessly as an advocate for ALS awareness and fundraising for patient care and research. His courage and commitment to serve others were a testimony and inspiration to all.
During Rex's battle with ALS, his firm faith and relationship with Jesus Christ touched many lives. His life testimony revealed that where there is doubt, have faith; where there is despair, have hope; where there is darkness, see the light and where there is sadness, embrace joy. He touched numerous lives and inspired all who knew him with his sense of humor and beautiful, contagious smile. He will be remembered and loved by all.
Rex is survived by his loving and supportive wife of 30 years, Bonnie Sanders Williams; son, Taylor Rex Williams; daughter, Greyson Williams Wright and her husband, Philip of Gainesville, Florida. He is also survived by his sister, Kaye Williams Tomlinson of Raleigh; and brother, Jack Worth Williams of Garner. The family sincerely expresses their heartfelt appreciation to all ofthe compassionate, loving caregivers who have shown constant love and care for Rex andhis family.

Funeral services will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church, 6612 Creedmoor Rd. Raleigh, NC 27613 on Saturday November 10th at 10:00 am. Interment will be at Montlawn Memorial Park following the service.
