IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard Blaine
Goudie
August 27, 1936 – May 16, 2020
RALEIGH
Major Richard Blaine Goudie, U.S. Army Retired and a proud Veteran, went to his heavenly home on May 16th, 2020 surrounded by his family. He was born in Philadelphia, PA on August 27, 1936 to Aubrey Goudie (Hank) and Ruth Doney Goudie.
Known as Dick to his wife, friends, and family; Dad to his son and daughters; and Pop Pop to his grandchildren, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. As a Football Letterman from 1954-1958 at NC State, Dick enjoyed many seasons of success and fun. He was a part of the 1957 ACC Championship team. He also became the Vice President of the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity Rho Chapter at N.C. State University and stayed actively involved with the Delta Sigma Phi Alumni Control Board through the years. He also proudly graduated with a BS in Textile Science in 1958. It is during this time that he met his wife, Vicky Rothrock Goudie, while attending Hillyer Memorial Christian Church. He and Vicky were married on August 15th 1959. Afterward, he proudly served in the U.S. Army as a Logistics Officer surviving two tours of duty in 1965 and 1969 in the Vietnam War. Dick had the unique advantage of working multiple careers in the military as an officer as well as the private sector where he excelled in management. He was also a proud Deacon, Elder, and Stephen Minister at Hillyer Memorial Christian Church. He enjoyed serving as an active member and Treasurer of his American Legion Chapter #530.
His great loves included his wife and children, grand-children and "all things" N.C. State. He could be found most weekends at N.C. State football, basketball, or baseball games with his lifelong best friend, Bob Kennel. They referred to each other as "Gooodie-Bird" and "Booby". Dick was very popular with his grand-children, nieces, and nephews quite frequently talking like Donald Duck. He also loved to sing a little jingle, "Scooby Dooby Doo". Dick was always there with a smile and helpful hand to all he encountered. He played with his grand-children like a kid himself which made him even more endearing. His kindness and consideration made him an example to many.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Vickie Rothrock Goudie, of Garner NC; his adult children Shari Goudie of Reston, VA; Lori Goudie of Buena Park, CA; Diana Goudie Toney of Garner, NC (Son-in-Law Francis Toney, Grandsons Blaine and Daniel); and Richard Goudie of Arlington, VA (Daughter-in-Law Sharon Clayborne Goudie, Grandson Ryan and Granddaughter Avery); brother Robert Goudie of Sanibel FL, many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews and many friends near and far.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 28, 2020 from 12:00 noon until 2:00 pm. It is the request of the family that all guests please wear a mask and practice social distancing for the safety of everyone. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 - and all are invited and welcome to attend. The visitation and funeral service will be held at Montlawn Funeral Home and Cremations, 2911 South Wilmington Street, Raleigh, North Carolina 27603.
