Obituary of Richard Raper

Richard Everette Raper, 77, of Raleigh, passed away Wednesday evening, August 1, 2012 at Hospice of Wake County.

A Graveside Service will be held 1:00 p.m Saturday, August 4, 2012 at Montlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

The family will receive friends at the Montlawn Funeral Home from 6 - 8 p.m. August 3, 2012.

Born February 1, 1935 in Wake County, NC, Richard was the son of the late Herman Edwards Raper and Ruby Adams Raper. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Francis and Lois.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Katherine Raper of Raleigh; brother, Robert Raper and wife Shelby of Cary; sister, Louise Barham and husband Donnie of Spring Hope; daughter, Linda Hicks of Wilmington; grandchildren, Ronnie and Megan Hicks, both of Wilmington; and many nieces and nephews.

Richard is a veteran of the United States Army. He loved his country and had mercy and love for those more unfortunate than himself, always willing to help everyone, especially if it had to do with mechanics. Many times he shared his possessions and money with people he knew. Richard loved his trucks and anything John Deere related. He was especially proud of his collection of antique tractors and loved putting them in parades.
