Obituary

Richard (Dick) James Scoville, Sr passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2019. He was born July 14, 1936 in Fulton, NY to William P Scoville and Eva Clemons Scoville.

He served in the US Marine Corps (1954-1957) as a lead aviation electrician on the Flying Boxcar. After leaving the military, he worked as a tool and die maker. He graduated from Marist College with a BS in Business Administration. He worked as a senior software programmer for IBM, retiring in 1992. He then became a broker for Howard Perry & Walston in Cary.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Betty Ryder Scoville. He was Betty's loving caregiver for 10 years, until her death in 2002 from Alzheimer's. After Betty's death, Dick founded the Apex Alzheimer's Care Giver Support Group. He also provided respite care on many occasions through Wake Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers. In 2004 he was named Volunteer of the Year by the Alzheimer's Association of Eastern NC. Dick had a generous spirit and helped others whenever he could.

He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Morrisville. He was an active member of the Concord and Cary Lions Clubs and the American Legion for many years.

Dick is survived by his son, Richard Scoville Jr (Cindy), stepdaughter, Diane Brown (Tom), stepsons: Harold Griffin Jr, (Paulette) and Gary Griffin (Karen), grandchildren: Tyler Scoville (MaryGrace), Missy Gallagher (Pat), Heather Brown (Shane), David Brown, Julie Griffin, Scott Griffin (Linda), Travis Griffin, Richelle Hunt (Don), sister, Florence Graham and brothers: Bill Scoville and Theron Scoville.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Montlawn Funeral Home, 2911 S Wilmington St, Raleigh. A service to celebrate Dick's life will follow at 2:00 pm, Saturday, April 6, 2019.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the NC Alzheimer's Association.
