Obituary of Rita Barr

Rita Tierney Barr, July 14, 2007, passed from this world of sickness and pain into the loving arms of her savior, Jesus Christ, whom she worshiped and served throughout her life.

Rita was born on September 1, 1952, in Laurinburg, NC to W. H. Tierney and the late Myrtis Satterfield. She married Michael Douglas Barr, Sr. on September 6, 1970.

Rita spent eight years on the Outer Banks of NC, where she enjoyed fishing and working with children. The last 23 she lived in Raleigh and Apex, where she enjoyed raising and showing Shetland Sheepdogs, working with young people at her church, and spending as much time as she could with her three grandchildren.

Rita is survived by her father W. H. Tierney; husband Michael D. Barr, Sr.; children Michael D. Barr, Jr. and Samantha Gens; grandchildren Austin Gens, Alexandria Barr, and Katherine Barr; and a sister Kimberly Sawyer. She was predeceased by her mother and stepmother.

Visitation will be held Tuesday July 17, 2007 from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. at Montlawn Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Wednesday July 18, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at Capital Church in Garner. Burial at Montlawn Memorial Park will follow.
