Obituary

Robert "Bob" Harold Buser, 73, of Holly Springs, NC died peacefully at home on Monday, September 16, 2024. Paramount in Bob's life was being "Papa/Grandpa". From soccer games to boat rides to dinners out, Bob's passion for his grandchildren was evident to all.

Survived by his wife of 51 years, Joan (Boswinkle), children Tracy Millikan (Grant Birge), Bryan Buser, and Jillian Denton (Blaine Streeper), sister Cheryl Morgavan (Les Schiller), grandchildren Jessica Hogan (Casey), Megan Millikan, Christopher Shamp, Joseph and Jacob Denton, Juliana and Hudson Streeper, and great-grandchildren Huxley and Scarlett Hogan as well as many, many family and friends. Bob is preceded in death by his parents Harold  E. and Katherine (Hitter) Buser and son-in-law, Jeremy Denton.

Born in Chicago Heights, IL January 25, 1951, Bob was raised in Highland, IN. Bob enjoyed an idyllic childhood of baseball, riding bikes with friends, watching Chicago Cubs baseball games with his family, and developing a lifelong love of cars. Upon graduating from Highland High School in 1969, Bob attended Indiana University earning a degree in Accounting and became an enthusiastic Hoosiers basketball fan.

On December 31, 1972 Bob and Joan went on their first date together. After knowing one another for many years through Joan's brother, Dennis, they both found themselves in need of a New Year's Eve date and there was no looking back. On September 8, 1973 they wed in Highland, Indiana where Bob's best friend, Dennis, became best man and then brother-in-law.

Bob's career took the family to Maple Grove, Minnesota. After six very cold winters up North, Bob's company transferred him to the DC area where they lived for 20+ years in Burke, VA. Putting down roots in Burke, Bob loved playing softball, boating on Lake Anna, serving his church family at Providence Presbyterian Church in Fairfax, VA and many lifelong friendships.

We like to say Bob was the original work-from-home entrepreneur. After many years working for large companies Arthur Young & Company in Chicago, FMC Corporation in Minnesota, Carlson Companies in Minnesota and Virginia, and Aloha Pacific Cruises in Virginia, in 1989 Bob started his own successful CPA practice, retiring in 2018. His retirement years afforded him the luxury of additional time deepening his faith within his Men's Bible Study group, Couples Small Group, and serving on the Safety team, all through Hope Community Church.

In the Spring of 2006, after 20+ years in Burke, VA, Bob and Joan moved to Apex, North Carolina. Over the years Bob played pickleball voraciously, bowled on various leagues at Buffaloe Lanes in Cary with Joan and friends, traveled, spent much time at Lake Gaston, invested in his local grandsons with travel to soccer games, dinners out together and spending as much time with family and friends as possible.

Life cannot be summed up in a few short paragraphs. Bob touched many lives with his humor, intelligence and analytic approach to life. A lifelong believer in Christ, Bob knew his future would be with his Maker in Heaven. He was not ready to leave his dear family and friends, but had comfort knowing this life is not the end. Bob's steadfast love for his family will be revered and missed.

The final year of Bob's life was not easy with the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer and subsequent treatments, surgeries, and hospitalizations along with many more health struggles. Joan and the family thank everyone for the love, care, support and prayers. A Celebration of Life will be held at Hope Community Church in Apex on Friday, October 4th at 2:30pm. In keeping with Bob's aversion to suits and ties, please consider dressing casually and even in Indiana University crimson red or Chicago Cubs blue. All are welcome to join in the celebration.

In lieu of flowers, donations to The American Heart Association (www.heart.org) or The American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org) are welcomed.
