Obituary of Robert Johnson

Robert G. (Bob) Johnson, Jr., 77, of Raleigh, died January 6, 2011 after a battle with cancer. He was born in Raleigh on December 21, 1933 to the late Robert Gilliam Johnson and Margaret Kimble Johnson.

Bobby grew up in Raleigh where he graduated from Hugh Morson High School in 1952 and attended N.C. State. He started his career with Peden Steel and continued in the structural steel business until his retirement. Besides Raleigh, Bob also lived in Greensboro and Charlotte for many years. "Dancing Bob" enjoyed Beach Music and socializing with his many friends and family.

He is survived by his children: Robert G. (Gil) Johnson III and wife Denise of Raleigh, Richard Reid Johnson and wife Sue of Bahama, NC, Liz J. Willoughby and husband Monte of Corpus Christi, TX, Joseph W. Johnson and wife Anne of Rocky Mount, NC, Randy Ballard and wife Debbi of Matthews, NC. Bob was also blessed with 12 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. He is preceded in death by his wife Lavonne Ballard Johnson and granddaughter Courtney Ballard.

Visitation will be held Saturday, January 8th, at Montlawn Funeral Home, from 1:00 pm-3:00 pm, followed by a graveside service at Montlawn Cemetery.
