Obituary

In Loving Memory

of

Robert "Bob" Laverne Long

Robert “Bob” Laverne Long, of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was 83 years old.

Bob was born on June 25, 1943, in Raleigh, North Carolina. He shared nearly 62 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Helen, building a life centered on family, laughter, and the many friendships he made along the way.

A true people person, Bob never met a stranger. He had a wonderful sense of humor, was quick with a laugh, and had a special way of making people feel welcome and at ease. Whether you had known him for years or had just met him, Bob had a gift for making you feel like a friend. That natural ability to connect with people served Bob well throughout a successful career in sales. During his career, he worked for Peden Steel, Edgecomb Metals, Jorgensen Steel, and Superior Graphite. More than simply being good at his profession, Bob genuinely enjoyed people and the relationships he formed throughout his life and career. He routinely call his customers on their birthdays and anniversaries both during his career and after his retirement.

Bob proudly served his country in the Army and was also an avid Carolina Panthers fan being an original PSL owner. But above all, his greatest legacy is the family he loved and the life they shared together.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 62 years, Helen Long; his son, Robert Todd Long, and daughter-in-law, Noel Long; his daughter, Tracey Long Jones, and son-in-law, Jay Jones; his grandchildren, Valerie Slaughter, Kevin Long, Jack Jones, Emma Jones, and Callie Jones; and his great-grandchildren, Jayce Slaughter and Kate Slaughter.

Bob will be remembered for his humor, his warmth, his love of people, and the laughter he brought into the lives of those around him. His was a life filled with family, friendship, service, and countless connections. He leaves behind many wonderful memories and a family who loved him dearly.

“A life measured not simply in years, but in family loved, friendships made, laughter shared, and lives touched.”

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Fuquay Varina Fire Department; Station House. Checks can be made out to Fuquay Varina Fire Department and mailed to 301 S. Fuquay Avenue, Fuquay Varina, NC 27526.
