Obituary of Robert McAlexander
Robert Kelly "Bob" McAlexander, of Raleigh, passed away Sunday morning March 25, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.
A Celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 31, 2012 at Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12 - 1:45 p.m. Saturday prior to the service.
Born February 27, 1930 in Lynchburg, VA, Bob was the son of Ralph Coella McAlexander Sr. and Mary Belle Sublett.
Bob proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean conflict and was a dedicated employee of IBM for over 35 years. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend. Bob loved everything about North Carolina, especially the mountains and the beach. He was also a Civil War history buff, a woodworker and tinkerer, and enjoyed helping his neighbors.
Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Rita, just 12 weeks ago. He is survived by his son, Randall McAlexander and wife Pat and very special granddaughters, Laura and Meagan McAlexander. He is also survived by his brother John and his wife Shirley, sisters; Linda Duke and her husband Stan, Brenda Vaughan and her husband Glenn and many cousins, nephews and nieces.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Bob to the Cancer Centers of North Carolina ("Dedicated to the Fight Fund"), 4101 Macon Pond Road, Raleigh, NC 27607.
