Obituary of Robert Mitchell

Robert Dosher (Bob) Mitchell, 80, formerly of Garner, NC, passed away Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Carolina East Medical Center in New Bern, NC.

Services will be held at Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel, 2pm, Tuesday, July 3rd. Entombment will follow in Montlawn Memorial Park, Chapel of Memories.

Bob was born June 29, 1930 in Winnabow, Brunswick County, NC to Daniel Edgar and Maebelle Mitchell. After graduating from high school, he served in the US Army as a military police officer and Honor Guard. Bob had a 35 year career with the NC Department of Corrections retiring as Superintendent of Plants. Bob was a loving husband and dedicated family man.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Georgia Eddins Mitchell; step-daughter, Ruth Ann Croom Barnes of Atlantic Beach, NC; grandson, Kevin Barnes and grandson, John Croom and wife Ashley of Wilmington, NC. His greatest joy was spending time with his great grandchildren, Tyler Mitchell, Jaxon Owen and Georgia Blaire Croom. Bob is predeceased by his parents; sister, Inez Mitchell Jarrell; brother, Daniel (Danny) Mitchell and his step-son, James Dennis Croom.

Pallbearers are to include Kevin Barnes, Eugene Cockrell, Kenneth Eddins, James Harris, Mike Martin, and Tommy Rich.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Bob's honor to Emerald Isle Baptist Church, PO Box 5000, Emerald Isle, NC 28594, Garner United Methodist Church, PO Box 2179, Garner NC 27529, or Temple Baptist Church, 1801 Market St., Wilmington, NC 28403.
