Obituary

Robert Lee Nichols was born on May 31, 1951 in La Jolla, CA to Floyd and Dorothy Nichols.  Rob was the youngest of 3 children with his brother Mel being the oldest and his sister Theresa (preceded Rob in death) as the middle child.  Like most kids that grew up in La Jolla, Rob spent most of his time at the beach, calling "birdrock" a very popular beach location in La Jolla his second home.  After years spent in La Jolla and now an adult, Rob traded in his flip-flops and surf shorts for mountain boots and skies and moved to Big Bear Lake.  Rob spent many years in Big Bear working on the ski slopes as well as honing his skills in construction during the mountain boom.  While living in Big Bear, Rob met the love of his life, Teresa (Terry) Biskobing.  I remember meeting Rob for the first time and thought, my goodness; my mom has finally met a really good man.  Little did I know, they would soon get married and have a loving marriage of over 27 years.  Rob was the glue that kept the two of them together through a few different moves that would eventually land them in Raleigh, North Carolina.  Rob and mom would take their love on the road to Las Vegas where they would enjoy the desert life, gambling, great food, shows and new friends.  A job change for mom would take them to Arizona for more of the desert life but also closer to other family members.  After several years in Arizona, the two of them traded in their desert passports for the beaches of Florida.  This would bring a new career opportunity for Rob where he continued to learn different trades related to construction work.  During their time in Florida, Rob and mom would meet new friends but kept very close to those they had befriended along the way.  One of Rob's closest and dearest friends dating back to his childhood is Tom Clawson.  Rob loved Tom like a brother and Tom was one of the last names Rob uttered before going off to Heaven.  Eventually Rob and mom moved to Raleigh, North Carolina where Rob would land a job at SAS industries working as a framer.  Let me tell you, the work that he did over the past 10 years at SAS will forever hang in their offices as well as homes of people who are blessed to have art with Robs frames.  Robs attention to detail and perfection for providing best in class work was put into everything he did.  One of Robs closest friends at SAS was Ken Batch.  Ken grew close to Rob and mom over the years to where it was like having another son; one that was in the same state. Ken recently told me how Rob got him in into golfing and baseball; they would enjoy both together for years. As for hobbies, Rob spent quite a bit of time on the golf course; where he was always even keeled and steady which was exactly like he lived his life.  Rob was simple, kind, polite, helpful……………yep, Rob was as good as they come.  I never heard him raise his voice except to say, "FOUR" on the golf course.  Rob enjoyed watching his grandkids play sports and was fortunate to see his eldest grandson (Alex Jackson) make his major league debut in 2019 and watch his second eldest grandson (Jacob Jackson) play college soccer at Loyola Marymount University.  I remember the day Rob called me and said he had been diagnosed with cancer.  Instead of saying, "poor me," he took on the challenge like everything that he had ever done in his life.  He promised me he would fight, and I promised him I would be his biggest cheerleader along the way.  Rob and I grew close over the years and I always took the time to thank him for being a great husband and a great grandfather, but I also appreciated the love he gave me as his step son.  Rob is also survived by Michelle Valencia-Jackson (Daughter-in-Law,) Alex Jackson (Eldest Grandson,) Jacob Jackson (Grandson,) Lamont Jackson (Step-son,) Tiffany Shockley-Jackson (Daughter-in-Law,) Daniel Jackson (Grandson,) and Noah Jackson (Grandson.) Rob is resting comfortably in heaven after giving us the thumbs up that he was ready to go home.  Rob took his last breath with his brother in law Mark Dusek and his wife Terry by his side and once again proved that his soul was bigger than life.  May your soul forever rest in heaven Robert Lee.
