Obituary of Robert Owen

Robert Craft Owen was born on June 4, 1932, in Coronado, CA, the son of Hilfort Craft Owen and Lillian Elizabeth Teeter Owen. Bob was a career Navy man, an Aviation Electrician's Mate. He met Betty Coleen Parker at the USO in Washington, DC, and they married February 6, 1954.

Bob retired from the Navy in 1972 at the rank of AVCM. After a brief stint as an engineer for a radio station in Roanoke, VA, Bob settled his family in Wilmington, NC, where he spent 20 years as the Chief Engineer at WECT-TV. Following his second career at the TV station, he was honored for his volunteer service as a computer technician for the SeniorNet community in Wilmington. Bob and Betty moved to Raleigh, NC in December 2007.

Robert Owen was preceded in death by his loving wife Betty in September 2009. He is survived by his brother, William Craft Owen of Alexandria, VA; his sister, Rita Owen of Raritan, NJ; his children: Clinton Owen of Kingston, WA; Sheri Elderfield of Raleigh; Teresa Ford of Laurel, MD; Greg Owen of High Point, NC; Robert Owen of Suwanee, GA; and Michael Owen of Raleigh, and nine grandchildren.

He will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Hanover County Senior Resource Center, 2222 S. College Road, Wilmington, NC 28403.
