IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert Lee
Robinson
June 24, 1949 – December 6, 2023
Our beloved Robert (Bob) L. Robinson peacefully passed away at his Cary, NC home surrounded by his loving wife and son on Wednesday, December 6, 2023. Bob was born on June 24, 1949, in Ypsilanti, MI to Eddie and Omealia Frye Robinson. He was educated in the Ypsilanti Public School system, and attended Eastern Michigan University where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration
in Accounting in 1971. Bob also achieved certificates in Project Management Leadership and Financial Management at George Washington University.
Bob married the love of his life Olivia Wilson in 1977 in Detroit, MI. Their union includes one son Terrence Keith Robinson, of whom he was so very proud of. Bob was employed by multiple major corporations. He held management positions with Detroit Bank & Trust, Kroger Supermarkets, General Motors Corporation, and the IBM Corporation. During his tenure with IBM, Bob moved his family to Texas, Georgia, back
to Texas, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and finally settled in Cary, North Carolina. He received many awards from IBM including two IBM Means Service Awards, The One Hundred Percent Club award, and Manager of the Year award. Bob retired from IBM in
2013 after 32 years of service. Several years past retirement, Bob procured a position with the Veterans Administration as a Financial Fiduciary to help Veterans manage their assets.
Bob was an active member of Wake Chapel Church for 25 years. Most of those years were under the caring pastoral leadership of Bishop J. Jasper Wilkins. Bob continued forward in his spiritual journey and his love for Wake Chapel Church under the Pastorate Sharon Dean until the day of his transition. He was compassionate about his faith and was fully devoted to living a Christian life inside and outside of the physical
church. Bob was active in several ministries at Wake Chapel Church such as the Cultivating Minority Male Initiative and NC Works Access Point (which supported job seekers) and Crown Financial. He also operated the church bookstore, Solomon's Corner, for many years.
He volunteered at several organizations and programs that fostered support and guidance to male youth including the Rishon Lodge in Austin, TX which is a Masonic Temple organization focused on youth; Concert, Inc., a non-profit organization with the initiative to cultivate the overall well-being of southeast Raleigh school children; NFP, CAB a non-profit organization focused on supporting first time parents; the Black Democratic Caucus of Wake County and he was a Founder and President of The Leand Elsie Mason Frye Family Heritage Association.
Bob was a very generous and hospitable person. He and Olivia regularly opened their home to family and friends to stop by for visits and fellowship. Bob was a reserved, yet compassionate gentle giant. He shared wisdom, no-nonsense advice, and financial
guidance on a regular basis to whomever he could. Bob loved a good meal and enjoyed eating out. He and Olivia often explored new
restaurants and easily served as the go-to connoisseurs in selecting good local eateries. He was a meat and potatoes man who loved grilling out and mastered searing a good steak.
In his leisure time, Bob could be found watching news channels and gearing up for hardy discussions around the politics of the day. He enjoyed playing Words with Friends with challengers both local and out of state. He would read financial magazines from cover to cover and discuss the latest investment trends with notable excitement and confidence. Bob was extremely proud of his family and cherished hearing about the
accomplishments of his nieces and nephews. Bob's deep, bellowing, baritone voice and his humming of spiritual songs will be deeply missed.
Bob is survived by his caring and devoted wife of 46 years Olivia Robinson, dedicated son Terrence Keith Robinson of Baltimore, MD, very personable and affectionate granddaughter Julia Marie Robinson of Stafford, VA, Brother, Melvin G. Robinson (Valerie) of Romulus, MI, Sister, Wynell R. Lockridge (James) of Ypsilanti, MI, Cousin/Brother Terry G. Frye (Gloria) of Ypsilanti, MI, sisters-in-love Sara A. Robinson
