Obituary of Ronald Marrs
Ronald Neil Marrs, 63, of Garner, died Monday morning, June 28, 2010 at his home. Born May 27, 1947 to Gail and Ruth Marrs in St. Louis, MO, Ron graduated from Northwest High Schoolin 1965. He attended the University of Missouri for two years before joining the Navy. He served in Naval Intelligence as a Vietnamese interpreter. After discharge from the Navy, Ron worked for the FBI in Washington, D.C. Ron joined the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation in 1975 and retired in 2002 after 27 years of service. During this time, he received his BA degree from North Carolina Wesleyan College in 1982.
Ron was president of the Association of Firearm and Tool Mark Examiners from 2004-2005. He also was an avid bowler for 54 years. He served as President for three bowling associations: RBA, Raleigh USBC and the Capital Area USBC Hall of Fame in 2010.
Ron is survived by his ex-wife, Karen Chandler and her children Jeff Jackson and Jennifer Jackson; ex-wife, Kathy Marrs and her son Rob Myrick; parents, Gail and Ruth Marrs; sister, Carol Malon and her husband Rich; brothers, Larry, Jerry and his wife Reggie, Russ and his wife Jennifer, Ken, and Keith and his wife Kim as well as his extended family and many close friends.
A Celebration of Ron's life will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, a contribution to your favorite charity in Ron's memory would be appreciated.
