Obituary of Rosa Chavis
Rosa Mae Chavis, 60, of Raleigh, departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Tuesday evening, November 2, 2011.
Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum at Montlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12 noon - 2 p.m. prior to the service.
A native of Harnett County, Rosa was born September 19, 1951, the daughter of the late Willie and Mabel Spence Matthews. She was a retired mortgage representative with Wachovia Bank, now Wells Fargo, a member of Tomorrow Concern Christian Church and sang in the church choir. Mom was known for her wonderful walnut-coconut pound cakes and would light up a room with her smile and laughter.
Rosa is survived by her husband, Rev. Charles L. Chavis; daughters, Eboni Charosa Chavis, Rosalyn Leenita Chavis, Charletta Chavis Carr and her husband, Justin, Charmaela Roseleeta Chavis; granddaughter, Nylah J. Carr; step mother, Birdie Lee Matthews; brothers, Clifton Matthews (Frances), Willie Matthews, Jr. (Brenda), Rev. Rayvon Matthews and his wife, Rev. Robin Matthews; sisters, Lillie Mae Cannady, Rosa Mae Dennis (James), Eardean Blount (Wallace) and Lola Evans (Robin).
She was preceded in death by her brothers, James Thomas Matthews and Simon Lee Matthews as well as her sister, Ola Mae Matthews.
