Roscoe Brown, Jr., Mr. Brown to his many students who knew him as their school principal, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2021 at age 90. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mary Colvard Brown of Raleigh, his daughter Elaine Williams of Raleigh and grandson Josh & Alison Waymire with great granddaughter Mia, and granddaughter Michelle & Chris Wheeler with great granddaughter Georgia and his son and daughter-in-law Tim & Debby Brown of Cary. Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents Tom and Leila Brown, his sister Dorothy Brown and brother Grady Brown all of Boone.

Mr. Brown attended Appalachian State earning BA and Masters degrees before entering the education field. Within the Raleigh and Wake County School Systems, he was principal at Powell Elementary for many years before serving at Vance Elementary, East Millbrook Middle and Lincoln Heights Elementary. In retirement, he worked with the First Union mortgage center in Raleigh.

As a self-taught master mechanic, he trained his children to be professional flashlight pointers from an early age and never trusted anyone else to work on his cars. Mr. Brown was a consummate sleeper with no chair safe from a quick slumber. His art of procrastination was fully realized in tardiness on any sort of deadline, appointment or church service. But one area that he excelled in was caring for family and loved ones. His selfless nature provided for many and will be his lasting legacy.

Your thoughts and prayers are appreciated at this time. Funeral arrangements are by Montlawn of Raleigh with visitation at 1:00pm followed by a graveside service at 2:00pm on Tuesday, June 29 ^th , 2021. Mr. Brown will not be late.
