Obituary of Rose Stroup
Rose Marie Witmer Stroup, Age 88, on December 8, 2014 transitioned to be with her Heavenly Father. She was born in High Point, NC to the late Samuel Bard Witmer and Ida Mae Brooks Witmer. She grew up among her father's family in Lancaster, PA. After her family moved to Cary, NC she graduated from Cary High School. Her family then moved to Raleigh, where she attended Meredith College and NC State. After college, she worked at NC State for several years.
She married Clyde S Stroup in 1953 and began her legacy as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. In 1966 the family moved to Middletown KY, where she made many life-long friends. She volunteered to work at her sons' schools as a Home Room Mother and PTA Secretary. In 1972, the family moved to Chattanooga TN, where she became a Golf and Swimming Mom transporting them to their different practices. In 1975, the family moved to Lexington KY and in 1979 moved to Columbia SC. In 1980, she moved back to where she considered "Home", Raleigh. She went back to work and worked several years at Daniels Middle School, where she retired. She was active in her Church including putting together the church bulletins each Friday until Alzheimer's took away her ability to participate.
She is survived by her sons, Clyde Jr. (Chip) and wife Jeri, Richard (Ricky) and wife Amanda; grandchildren Samuel, Daniel, Julia, Alexandra and Hannah; her sister Laverne Pendergrass; many nieces and a nephew; brother-in-law Cale Burgess; and sister-in-law Virtie Stroup.
She is predeceased by her parents, husband for 47 years, her daughter, Kathy Dawn Stroup; and her sister Jacqueline Witmer Burgess.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at Christ Covenant Church. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Interment will follow the service at Montlawn Memorial Park.
