She also leaves behind a legacy of grandchildren, Cameron and Cristin Council of Nashville, TN, Harrison Council and Ryan Council of Austin, TX, Grace Wheeler, Jacob Wheeler and Jeffrey Wheeler of Raleigh, NC, Isabelle Council and Willa Council of Clayton, NC.
Ruth was a very special person who loved the Lord. She was known by many names. To Noel she was known as a loving and devoted wife of 61 years. Some called her Mrs. Council when she taught piano or was substituting for a teacher at school. Many called her Nurse Ruth as she performed nursing duties from the premature nursery (nicknamed "the baby whisperer"), to psychiatric care, to nursing injured kids in the neighborhood. Some called her Aunt Ruth, especially on Christmas Eve when her house would overflow with the warmth of family. A few had the privilege and honor of calling her mom and grandma and she poured her heart and soul into her family. She wrote funny and inspirational short stories for her children and grandchildren. She also created a special award in the family called the "Family Star" where she would acknowledge a person who had really shined over the year. She used the family award to encourage and celebrate the individual.
Ruth was incredibly creative and talented. She was a gifted pianist and a prolific composer. She wrote several Christmas cantatas to honor God. She also loved to paint. She painted intricate egg shells, large canvases, and anything that looked like it needed sprucing up. She was a gifted poet and writer and could paint a canvas with her words.
After growing up in Caraleigh, she reunited the girls by starting The Caraleigh Ladies. She was proud to be a Rex Nursing School graduate of the class of 1959. She was a faithful member of Millbrook United Methodist in Raleigh, NC.
She was dearly loved and will be missed by all.
An outdoor service will be held Saturday January 16th at 1:00 pm at Montlawn Cemetery in Raleigh, NC. A live stream of the service will be provided.
In Lieu of Flowers, the family requests that contributions in honor of Ruth B. Council be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital by clicking here .
