Obituary

FUQUAY-VARINA

Sandra Ann Michaud Chasse, 74, of Windsor Point, Fuquay Varina, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2021, surrounded by her loving family, after a period of declining health.

Sandie was born on September 10, 1946, to Robert Henry Michaud and Marguerite Nadeau Michaud in Rochester, NH.  The family eventually settled in Dover, NH where Sandie attended Holy Trinity elementary school and Somersworth High School. She then went on to the University of New Hampshire and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Masters of Arts in Teaching degree.  While at UNH, she was a proud member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and was active in numerous college events.  Upon graduating, she began her career as an English teacher.

As her family grew and relocated over the years, she had the opportunity to teach in several school districts.  She taught countless students with verve and grace, creating lasting relationships and generations of English-savvy graduates.

While in grammar school, she met Bob Chasse.  They became close friends, started dating in high school, and were married in 1968.  They remained devoted to each other for the next 53 years.

For all of her commitment to the students she loved so much, Sandie's true devotion was to her own four boys and her family.  Building a new home time and time again was no small chore, particularly with a houseful of children in various stages of childhood, but Sandie handled each transition with as much ease and aplomb as could be mustered.  A whirlwind of PTA meetings, baseball and soccer games and practices, guitar lessons, scouts, CCD classes—times four!—dominated the family's days and nights.

Once the boys left home, retirement beckoned.  Sandie and Bob relocated yet again, first to Chesapeake, VA and then to North Carolina, where they enjoyed watching their grandchildren grow.  Retirement also provided the opportunity to travel.  The happy couple visited Europe, Mexico and Hawaii, sailed on annual cruises, and visited friends and family.  While not on the road, Sandie enjoyed knitting, crafts and needlepoint.

Even in the last several years of progressive health concerns, Sandie's smile and laugh were infectious, and her love for her family shined, even in the darkest of times.

Sandie was predeceased by her parents, her uncle Malcom Nadeau of South Berwick, ME, and a grandson, Nathan Chasse of Garner, NC.  Survivors include her beloved husband Bob, brother Steven Michaud (Rebecca) of Morton, WA, and aunt Annabel Donnelly of Dover, NH; sons Eric (Dawn) of Apex, NC, Adam (Robin) of Garner, NC, Ben (Caroline) of St. Petersburg, FL, and Jeff (Nicole) of Roslindale, MA; and cherished grandchildren Drew, Ryan, Sean, Cooper, Cameron, Lucy, Frankie and Jasper.

The family will hold a celebration of Sandie's life on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. at the Montlawn Funeral Home, 2911 South Wilmington Street, Raleigh, NC (919-772-1073). The family will receive friends prior to the service - from 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm.
