Obituary

Sarah Francis Horton Durham passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 2 nd , 2023. Sarah was the daughter of Graham and Isobel Horton. After graduating from Broughton High School, Sarah worked as Secretary to the late Gov. Terry Sanford, Capital Locksmith and worked in the print shop for the NC Legislature. In her own words, she wrote…

I choose to write my own obituary. I was born on June 1 st , 1938. What a life! I am the daughter of Graham and Isobel Horton, who taught me right from wrong and many other values. I had one brother Glen Horton and one sister, my best friend, Mary Ella Cormack and their spouses, children and more children. I loved all of them very much.

I had the best husband in the world. I hand picked him and we had 54 happy years together. I had many close, best friends; loving, good and faithful could describe them. Most of all my daughter, not by birth but by choice, was Jennifer. No one was like my Jennifer. She gave me a lovely granddaughter, Ashlyn. I wish Ash to listen often to the words of the song I gave her, "I Hope You Dance," because I know she can and will.

Don't grieve for me for by the Grace of God I accepted His free gift of Salvation and I am on my way to Heaven to sit at his feet. I hope I can look down and see a lot of big water. Remember me, smile and know as I said many times, "I had fun!"

Beginning at 12:30p visitation and service will be held Feb 8 th at Montlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, 2911 S Wilmington St, Raleigh, NC.
