Shelby Fay Moore
January 13, 1942 - February 7, 2009
Shelby Fay Moore, 67, a resident of Chadwick Apartments in Garner, died Saturday afternoon, February 7, 2009 at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.
Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday at Montlawn Funeral Home chapel. Interment will follow in Montlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service.
Shelby was born in Cumberland County, NC to the late Willard Wilbert and Fay Matthews Moore. She is survived by her brother, Charles Willard Moore and wife, Jenelle of Garner; nephew, David Charles Moore of Norwood, NC; niece, Diane Moore Wathen and husband, Michael of Garner; two great nieces, Samantha Faye Wathen and Alison McKenzie Wathen of Garner. She is also survived by these very special friends; Helen and Joey Ingram of Garner, Barbara Bentley of Garner, and Patsy and Milton Schumpert of Columbia, SC.
Shelby was a 1960 graduate of Garner High School and took a secretarial course at Hardbargers Business College in Raleigh. She was a secretary for 34 years with the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Veterinary Service. In 1973 she had a job transfer to Columbia, SC where she lived for 31 years. She retired on December 5, 1995 and returned to her hometown of Garner in June of 2004.
She was a charter member of Garner Advent Christian Church, which was founded in 1954. She began playing the piano for the church at a very early age and continued to share her exceptional talent in many churches. She was currently a member of Hayes Chapel Christian Church in Garner. Shelby had a deep abiding faith in God, as shown by the life she lived.
The family would like to express their thanks to Dr. Jeffrey Abrams, Dr. Sukanto Biswas and the entire staff of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at WakeMed for their compassion and support during Shelby's illness.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hayes Chapel Christian Church, 315 Old Garner Road, Garner, NC 27529 or to Garner Advent Christian Church, 1120 Vandora Springs Road, P.O. Box 318, Garner, NC 27529.
