Obituary

C ary, NC Shirley Warner was born on January 9th, 1937 in Burkes Garden, Virginia also known as "The Garden Capital of the World." Her mother, Ruth Claire was an avid cook, gardener, and seamstress who taught Shirley and her sister, Lena, these skills from an early age. Shirley liked to talk about her mother having to borrow her  father's blue jeans to work outside since women didn't wear pants in those days. Her father, Earl Tabor, was respected farmer who made dulcimers and played them along with his wife. According to Shirley, her father also made a little moonshine from time to time when her mother wasn't looking. Earl moved his family to Raleigh, North Carolina for work when Shirley was in high school. Shirley graduated from cosmetology school and was married to Luther Dudley Warner for over fifty years until he passed away in 2015.  Their beloved daughter, Paula Warner followed him to heaven in 2016.  Shirley worked as a cosmetologist for over forty years while volunteering much of her time at Macedonia Methodist Church. Shirley's hands were never idle in her entire life.  Although she suffered from Alzheimers, she lived an active and meaningful life.  From 2016 until her passing on January 25th, 2020, she was cared for by her nephew, Jeff Butler and his wife, Dr. Blaire Butler. They were blessed to learn many lessons from Shirley, among them: Never let laundry go unfolded, always keep the bird feeders filled, make people happy by giving them flowers, walk the neighborhood daily to talk to everyone and don't forget to sweep.
Shirley would want everyone to know that her work here is done. She received a call from the Lord to join him for a reunion with family and friends she had dearly missed. She will be now be socializing, bird watching, painting and gardening  to her heart's content. Shirley left this earth peacefully, in her sleep with her loved ones by her side. We will remember her smile, warmth, energy and dancing to Elvis Presley songs. She made a real difference in the lives of many.
In lieu of flowers, Shirley would want you to do an act of kindness for someone in need.
