Obituary of Stella Hux

Stella Lowery Hux, 87, from Raleigh and Surf City passed away Saturday, July 14 following years of declining health. She was preceded in death by her husband Bernard and son Jerry.

After her marriage she followed her husband who served in the Army to Newport News, VA where she was a Rosie Riveter, working as a mechanic on B-52 bombers. After raising her family in Raleigh, she was an educator and partner with Hardbarger Junior College of Business, where she cherished her interaction with fellow staff and students on a daily basis.

She was also a business owner at Topsail Beach of Whitecaps, Ocean Pier Motel and Patio Playground. "Huxie," as she was lovingly known, had many varied interests from her love of gardening, animals, cooking, and travel. She may have been best known recently around Topsail Beach as an expert engineer of banana splits in her ice cream shop, but her greatest joy was always being with family.

She is survived by her loving son and caregiver, Charles of Surf City, daughter-in-law, Anne of Atlanta. Grandchildren: Mason (Amy) Hux, Mt. Pleasant, SC; Emily (Corey) Lieske, Atlanta; Spencer (Brooke) Hux, Johns Island, SC. Great grand-children: Violet and Livian Hux, Mt. Pleasant; Avery and Ben Lieske, Atlanta; Maclary Hux, Johns Island; a cousin Virgie Denton and many special friends.

Graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 19 at Montlawn Memorial Park followed by the family receiving friends in the visitation area of the Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels of Wake County, 1001 Blair Drive, Raleigh, NC 27603.
