Steven J. Hovey, 70, of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina died on February 21, 2020 after a 3 year battle with pancreatic cancer. Steven is loved and will be missed by his wife of 45 years, Judy, and his five daughters: Christine Beaulieu (Jeffrey), Virginia Oleson (Joel), Janell McInroe (Brandon), Angela Zook (Robert), and Michelle House (Reise). He is survived by nine grandsons Taylor, Scott, Jacob, Cody, Jared, Benny, Dean, Levi, and Ian and two granddaughters Ashley and Paisley. He is also survived by his brothers Glen Hovey (Norma), Roger Hovey (Terrie), and David Hovey (Lorene) and his sisters Elaine Ellis (the late Leonard Ellis) Ranae Covel (Larry).
Steven was born in McLean, Virginia on January 11, 1950 to Reid M. Hovey and Maxine Smith. He grew up in Virginia moving to Utah his Senior year of High School. After attending one year at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, Steven completed 2 years as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in Montana and Wyoming. Following his mission, Steven returned to Brigham Young University and completed his Bachelor's degree, met and married his future wife, Judy Carol Larsen and had his first daughter Christine. Steven and Judy raised their family for 22 years in Southern California where the rest of their daughters were born. While in Southern California Steven attended West Coast University, earning a Master's degree in Computer Science in 1980. In 1996 Steve and Judy left California and moved to Utah for more training, followed by living in Oregon, Utah again and then Virginia for 14 years where he finished his career working for the federal government.
During his career Steven worked as a software engineer, an information technology director and also taught courses in the IT field for many entities working as an assistant professor, an adjunct professor and overseeing training in the IT field in many other organizations including TSA. After Steven retired from the Federal government in 2015 he and his wife Judy moved to Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina. Even in retirement Steve kept busy by earning his Real Estate Licence, working at the local movie theater and driving for Uber.
Throughout his life Steven was active in his church and served in various callings. Steven loved art and music and would often sing in the bass section in the local church choir. Steve enjoyed working on his family history, and was a meticulous record keeper. In his free time he enjoyed watching movies both old and new and his greatest passion was playing the acoustic guitar and singing.
Funeral Services will be held for Steven Thursday February 27th, 2020.Services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints church building at 6528 Johnson Pond Road, Fuquay Varina, NC 27536.
Viewing will be at 11:00am, Services to follow at 12:00pm.
Internment at Montlawn Memorial Park.
