Sue Woods Morse, 88, of Raleigh, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
Sue was born on March 18, 1938, in Durham, North Carolina, to the late David and Hope Woods.
She graduated from Northern High School in Durham and attended Watts School of Nursing, training to work in the operating room.
She lived in Greensboro and Durham before moving to Raleigh, where she raised her children. In 1987 she married Mike Morse, whom she called the love of her life; their marriage, spanning nearly four decades, brought her a lifetime of travel, adventure, and joy — Alaska remained her favorite destination.
Sue worked with the State Employment Security Commission in Raleigh.
A devoted Christian, she was warm, kindhearted, and quick with a friendly conversation. She loved reading, going to the beach, movies, and “shopping till you drop.” Sue was the strength and nurturer of her family, with a lively sense of humor and a welcoming spirit; she never met a stranger.
She was preceded in death by her father, David Woods; mother, Hope Woods; husband, Mike Morse; grandson, Patrick McCormick; and son-in-law, Brian Bailey.Sue is survived by her daughter Robin Bailey; son Jeff Kelly (Lisa Barfield); grandchildren Megan Price (Justin), Robert Bailey, Chris Bailey (Meaghan), Sam Kelly, Zack Kelly, and Josh Cole; and great-grandchildren Lucas Cole, Calvin Cole, Dahila Elliot, and Ines Bailey. Family also includes siblings David Woods (Judy), Tony Woods, and Carol Morris, and nephews Brad Woods and Olin Woods.
At the time of her passing the family was also awaiting a fifth great-grandchild.
The family extends special thanks to Mary Guthrie for the loving, exceptional care she provided to Sue and Mike.
Visitation will be on Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Montlawn Funeral Home.
Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Montlawn Funeral Home.
Interment will immediately follow in Montlawn Memorial Park.
Her grace, love, and legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts be made to Alzheimer’s Addiction, St. Jude’s Cancer Association, or plant a tree in her memory below.
