Sylvester Hilliard Jr., affectionately known as Syl, Sonny, and Sly, 69, entered into eternal peace at his home on April 14, 2016. Sylvester was born on April 10, 1947 to Sylvester and Katie (Ricks) Hilliard of Rocky Mount, NC. He graduated from Ligon High School in June 1965. Upon graduation, he attended North Carolina Central University where he earned a Bachelor of Art degree in Business Administration. Sylvester worked as General Manager for Burger King Corporation for over 30 years.
After retirement Sylvester thoroughly enjoyed athletics and was a huge sports fan. Sylvester not only played in a bowling league for over fifteen years but he was a North Carolina Central season ticket holder and was sure to attend every game he could. Sylvester thoroughly enjoyed watching football and basketball games on television. He especially enjoyed watching Duke Basketball during the ACC season which created an intense rivalry between him and his brother who is a huge Carolina fan. In addition to loving sports, Sylvester was also a car enthusiast.
Sylvester enjoyed attending his yearly high school reunions to socialize and catching up with his classmates.
Sylvester is survived by his brother, Bernard R Hilliard; sister-in-law, Wanda Hilliard; a niece, Ashley Hilliard and many loving family and friends.
Celebration of life services for Sylvester will begin with a visitation Tuesday, April 19, 2016 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am followed by a funeral service at 11:00 at Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel, 2911 S. Wilmington Street, Raleigh. Interment at Montlawn Memorial Park.
